At Tierra Patagonia, connection to nature unfolds in unexpected ways. As you settle into the rhythm of the landscape, disconnection from the everyday comes naturally. Our excursions are designed to reveal the region in depth — its geology, culture and wildlife – and, if fortune allows, you may find yourself face to face with its inquisitive foxes, drawn as much to you as you are to them.

Chile is home to its own endemic fox species, including the culpeo (Lycalopex culpaeus) and the chilla (Lycalopex griseus). Both are found throughout the country – and can also be spotted around Tierra Patagonia.

The culpeo, often referred to as the Andean or red fox, is the larger of the two and unique to South America. Weighing up to 12 kilograms (26 pounds) and measuring between 80 and 120 centimetres (31–47 inches) in length, this solitary, largely nocturnal canid favours open terrain for hunting, while temperate forests provide shelter for rest and concealment.
