Connecting with nature and wildlife: Foxes at Tierra Patagonia
Part of the unique experience at Tierra Hotels is connecting with nature in new ways, ways you never have before.
Day 1
We begin our Patagonian tour at Laguna Azul, an incredible deep blue lagoon ideal for bird watching and enjoying privileged views of the Torres del Paine. We pass the Paine waterfall, renowned for its icy glacial waters, and then finish the tour by Laguna Amarga, where, if we’re lucky, we’ll see some flamingos. This tour can also be done on horseback, which we find an excellent way to take in Patagonia on your first day.
Day 2
We wake up early, have a good breakfast and get ready for a full day of adventures on the way to the Valle Francés, a trek that requires a certain degree of physical fitness, but believe us – it is totally worth its views. We will walk along Paine Grande for seven kilometers, viewing native flora and fauna, until we reach the great hanging glacier of Paine Grande, the area’s crown jewel. If the weather and climate are favorable, we can continue ascending through the Valle Francés with its beautiful lenga and Dombey’s beech tree forests on a hike of approximately 16 kms. An incredible dinner will be waiting for you when you arrive at the hotel after a long day.
Day 3
We know that the previous day’s hike was long, but we promise that, on this third day, you will experience one of this trip’s most epic. Keep in mind that Base Torres is a more difficult walk and one must be in good physical condition to carry it out. We will begin by following the natural course of the Ascensio River. As we ascend through vegetation, the mountains will appear little by little. Continuing down a steep hillside, we will cross a river, a native forest and a hillside full of large boulders, and finally reach one of the most beautiful places in the world: Torres del Paine.
Day 4
On the fourth day, we will return to Torres del Paine National Park, but now to see it from a totally different angle – by taking a boat to Grey Glacier.
Arriving at the lake, we will pass through a Nothofagus forest (or White Oak, as some call it), a native Chilean tree, to reach Grey Beach, where we will see different ice floes scattered around the lake. Here we will board the catamaran, on which we will tour the lake to see the imposing face of the Grey Glacier. We then stop for lunch, taking in the beautiful panoramic views of Grey Lake and the surrounding peaks. On the way back, we’ll stop at several viewpoints to end a beautiful afternoon at Tierra Patagonia.
Day 5
On the fifth day we want to take you to Hunter’s Trail, a walk where you can witness signs of the Aonikenk culture, part of the regional heritage of our Patagonia. We will tour the area where these nomadic hunter-gatherers lived, observing their paintings in the caves along the walk. This sector of the park is characterized by the sighting of native fauna, such as guanacos, foxes and condors. End this amazing adventure back at the hotel with a relaxing afternoon at our UMA SPA or perhaps a yoga class, to settle into a mood that prepares you to head back to the airport.
With this adventurous 5-day itinerary, the most iconic places in the area will be included on your visit to Tierra Patagonia.
